Who looks after it
The house is not handed to a contractor. Our friends Bill and Kim act as the local caretakers — they know the place, they notice the small things as well as the big ones, and they are the ones who put them right.
It is the difference between somebody fixing what is on a work order and somebody fixing what they noticed. A house looked after by friends stays in the condition friends would want to find it in.
They are not next door, so this is not a five-minute response. What it does mean is that when something needs doing, the person doing it cares how it turns out.

Somewhere for everyone
4 places to sit down and eat: breakfast nook, dining table in the big room, patio table, picnic table down in the lakeside park. A houseful never has to eat in one place, or in shifts.
The big room
It runs across the back of the house behind huge picture windows, so the lake is in the room with you rather than out of a window. A huge fireplace under hand-carved beams, and bookshelves from yesteryear along the wall.
Master suite
King bed and an en-suite shower room, with three large picture windows over the water — the same view as the big room, to wake up to. It closes off from the rest of the house, so whoever takes it gets the quiet end.
Bunk room
Three king beds and floor space for more, with two bathrooms right next to it — one with a shower, one with the tub. A second family gets its own room and its own bathrooms, a few steps away.
Beyond eight
Air mattresses and a pump are provided, indoors only. Say so when you book so we can have them out for you.
Your own shows
The TV has a Roku — the free Roku channels for anyone, and sign in to your own paid accounts for the rest. Your queue, not a channel list. Just remember to sign out before you leave; it is first on the checkout list for a reason.
Everybody stays charged
A 10-port USB-A and USB-C charging station, with cables provided — two of the ports are 65W USB-C, enough to run a laptop, centrally located, convenient to all guests. A houseful arrives with twenty-odd devices and never enough cables — here nobody is quietly unplugging somebody else at midnight.
If you have to log in
There is a desk, a portable folding table and a small monitor, on 100+ Mbps internet — fast enough for video calls, not just email. Nobody comes to a lake house to work, but if one of you must, it is a real setup rather than the end of the kitchen counter.
Cooling
Central heat and air sized for a Texas August — it holds 72°F when it is 110°F outside. There are three window units, in the kitchen, the bunk room and the master, but they are a backstop for a day the central system is down rather than something you need. We ask you to leave them off otherwise.
